OK, it was le bal masqué and at least one person interpreted this as meaning a scuba mask. I'm curious to know if the desire of assembled mature adults to get into a conga line and romp round the room at 1 a.m. waving paper napkins is a peculiarly Midi thing, or do they do it elsewhere in France too?
