The Throw-Away Age

We saw this old typewriter thrown into a rubbish bag at Akwright's Mill in Cromford Nr. Matlock.

Once upon a time, a craftsman would have spent days assembling this machine based on an engineer's instructions and it would be intended to last a lifetime. A typewriter would have been a serious investment for an organisation of any size but how times have changed.

A modern notebook pc is countless times more powerful than this but for a fraction of the relative price.
