Chateau de Chenonceau
En route to our friends house today we called in at a chateau for a look around.
Built in the 16th Century on the site of an old mill and fortified castle. The chateau is built on the old piers of the fortified mill crossing the River Cher.
A very interesting building, during the first world war it was set up as a hospital. During the second world war the river Cher corresponded to the line of demarcation, the chateau was in the occupied zone on the right bank, but the gallery gave access to the left bank enabling the Resistance up pass large numbers of people into the free zone.
