'I wanna be a Zebra!'
Today Helena had an interview with altitude specialists for her magazine article which I joined her for. It was actually really interesting, apart from the men rambling and interrupting each other. They were also rather old and very obsessed with women. But it was still cool to learn about their studies into altitude and living somewhere as high as La Paz. One thing they mentioned which is pretty crazy is that it has been proven possible to live every day as high as the peak of Mt. Everest, even though there is currently no human existence living at that height! They also said it takes 40 days for your red blood cells to fully adapt to the altitude which pleases me as I can still use the altitude as an excuse, especially for feeling sleepy and napping.
After chilling at the apartment for a few hours we decided to go out for a walk. It was actually a really nice day and surprisingly warm. Helena gave me a tour of downtown La Paz, stopping off at the government palace and square. We walked through the markets, managing to finally find a good pair of tights. I also purchased an earring to try and cure my non-healing ear and a belly-bar that actually has a top! But the excitement of the day was definitely seeing the volunteer zebras, an initiative set up by the governent to help people cross the roads and stop the stubborn cars. Anyone can volunteer to do this for the day so you never know...
Since it was such a nice day we went for beer and nut pie with Roisin and later headed to the Irish pub with Sharoll for some Irish stew. Although it tasted good it was very disappointed as it looked a lot more like soup than stew, contained peppers, and had no potatoes!!
