Lacebark

Warm thanks to everyone for your blipday greetings yesterday, so many lovely words and thoughts on my journal. It's been my pleasure to share a little of New Zealand with you on a daily basis and I'm feeling very humble after reading your words, thank you so very much :)

A quiet one for today, delicate and pretty from my garden.

Lacebark
Maori name: Hoheria populnea
Other names: Ribbonwood, Houhere, Houi, Whauwhi
It is an Endemic genus.

The Lacebark is a small tree with smooth green-brown bark becoming mottled with age. The leaves alternate, bright green, ovoid and toothed. The tiny white flowers are scented, profuse, single or in clusters from the leaf axils and flower late summer into early autumn.

We woke to blue sky this morning but it didn't last, thick light grey cloud crept across the sky with just a faint glow from the sun. Its been cooler to, a mere 5C in the house this morning, much cooler outside but there has been no wind - nothing like yesterday!

Sad news today, the Christchurch Cathedral is to be demolished down to 2-3 metres. It will be stone by stone so hopefully the stone can be re-used or the Cathedral re-built, only time will tell.

Other news: Our only department store, a chain, in my small town was evacuated today and has been closed - earthquake related. Theres not too many shops left now, it looks like some sort of container/ shed shopping will be happening, hopefully before people move on and shop elsewhere.

Time to rustle the pantry doors, hunt throught the fridge and find something appetising for tea.

Have a great weekend all :)
