So Long Junk!
I just became one of those people I think are so ridiculous on that show called "Hoarders"....I almost had a little nervous breakdown over parting with some of the boys things that I wasn't ready to part with quite yet (or ever). I left blubbering over a few things (after telling them what I was absolutely not willing to say goodbye to) and escaped to the nearest Starbucks to get my fix and to calm down. Gary happily said goodbye to me and dragged everything out of their closet to take a shelf out to make more room for clothes. On the floor, and down the hallway, the boys made 'keep' and 'toss' piles. Then they shoveled them into garbage bags to donate to Goodwill and to friends. Believe it or not, just less than 6 months ago I had gotten rid of bags already. :-/
By the end of the day, shelves were taken out, toys were put back into the closet and guess what.....I can NOW see their closet again, as well as their lego table, as well as their chest, as well as their dresser! AND now they can find the toys they actually love. :) You see, Liam is a bit like me, everything holds a memory. His dresser was covered with things he considered memories that it all looked so disheveled. He ended up making a shoebox entitled "Liam's secret box of fun" where he put much of it (things like his used glow bracelets from his first summer camp, favorite drawings, paper footballs, a hockey puck, a Harry Potter wand he made). Oh how much peaceful it is to go into their room. It is no longer an anxiety attack waiting to happen. Tomorrow we will tackle the clothes to keep and get rid of!
