Wales-Scotland
This is the view from my kitchen window of Scottish mountains and the daffodils are a reminder that today is St Davids Day.
For this is the day that exiled Welsh, and I am one of them, feel nostalgic for our homeland.
We do not share Dylan Thomas caustic view :' "The land of my Fathers....and they are welcome to it."
Or that the best thing to come out of Wales is the M4 to London.
But lets not get dewy eyed and sentimental. If we really thought Wales was that great why aren't we living there now?
True, Wales has gone through a cultural and political renaissance in recent years and not before time.
So, for those who know it only for its singing, rain, rugby and unpronounceable place names here are some ten things you need to know about St Davids Day.
And here's some famous people who have come out of this small country, with its population of 3 million, suggesting it can punch above its weight.
Richard Burton, Catherine Zeta Jones,Antony Hopkins, Dylan Thomas, Augustus John,Jeff Banks, Laura Ashley, Harry Secombe, Karl Jenkins, Dick Francis, Leslie Thomas, Roald Dahl, Bryn Terfel, Katherine Jenkins,Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, John Humphrey, Terry Jones, and the Archbishop of Canterbury , Rowan Williams
And I haven' t touched on sport .
