Gulls, gulls and more gulls .....
While most sensible photographers were producing meaningful, fun-filled or witty pictures to commemorate Leap Year's Day, I was staking out a landfill site in Kirkby on Bain, Lincolnshire in the hope of spotting a white stork which has been living there for a little while. The weather was grey, as usual, and the stork was conspicuous by its absence. Hundreds and hundreds of gulls, however, constantly swooped on the piles of rubbish, not at all fazed by the plant machinery which was pootering along the top.
We saw a couple of goosanders, three smew and a lot of goldeneye on the adjoining water-filled pits and ponds and I had the singular experience of being told off by a lovely man in a big truck, after I climbed through a barbed wire fence and trespassed on some private property in search of a decent Leap Year's Day blip. All in vain, however, so here are the gulls on the landfill site.
Happy Leap Year's Day!
