Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Looks Like Rain

It looks like rain, but the rain was yesterday, not today. What the view is revealing, though, is the light covering of snow on the distant foothills south of our community.

This is the sight that welcomed me after exiting the classroom at 12:45. I had been indoors all morning since 8:00 teaching two classes and had no idea what a spectacular view was waiting for me. I don't think my little point and shoot does it justice.

This morning with both classes has been quite good. My students are learning how to summarize articles, and while I'd like for the project to be submitted next week, I realized this morning that if I keep that deadline, they are going to submit inferior work. They just aren't ready yet. Most of them can't find a main point in each of the articles, and even though last week in the classroom I displayed on the whiteboard exactly how they were to begin each summary, a very small percentage of them managed to do that. I'm always discouraged when students can't even copy something that has been modeled for them. There must be a missing piece here that I'm just not getting. I wonder, though, if they are just used to submitting inferior work (and having it accepted). Ugh!

So walking out to this breath-taking view was certainly refreshing.

So tomorrow brings the "extra" day in February.

Good night from Southern California.
