Japanese White-Eye On Hawaii
Aloha from the Big island of Hawaii...so nice to feel the warmth and hear the waves and birds! We use to come here every year, and then started going to Maui, so it is so nice to be back! The VOG (volcano smog) is pretty bad, but it is still paradise!
We went for a short walk around the grounds here at Kanaloa, and headed over to the beautiful little bay where we immediately saw all sorts of unusual birds. The first one that caught my eye was feeding on the pod fruits in this beautiful little tree...hanging upside down and sideways to get at it! He is a stunning bird, lemony green with a big eye! Known as the Zosterops japonicus or Japanese White-eye, they were introduced to Hawaii in 1939.
