The State of the Nation

Noticed this window and thought it kind of summed up the state of the nation ... no amount of bunting and fairy lights can disguise the inexorable path of decay.

Although it has to be said that this was in the garden of a favourite tea room in Ditchling (here) having tea and buns with friends after a lovely lunch at the pub next door.

It's true that Ditchling, home of Vera Lynn, is possibly one of the richest villages in the area, nestling picturesquely at the foot of the South Downs - but I think the metaphor is still valid .... just ...
