Earthdreamery Tree

After the extended birthday celebrations, I'm now coping with a cold -- my first this winter, so I shouldn't complain -- but it does mean searching for blip subjects around the house. Plunging temperatures, high winds, and a strong likelihood of snow again is the weekend forecast, reinforcing the need to find interesting things to photograph inside.

I've been meaning to blip this small Woodland brooch (2in x 1.5 in / approx. 5cm x 3.75cm) for some time. It was created in 1995 by the same artist -- Rachel Badeau -- who created the Woodland Goddess plaque that I blipped in December.

I love the detail in this brooch, particularly the acorns that mark the four directions. When I pulled it out today to photograph, I realized that the shape of this bare oak tree reminded me of Earthdreamery's superb photo of The Fairytale Hawthorne earlier this week.

There is something about a tree like this one, or Earthdreamer's hawthorn, bare for winter, that touches my heart in a way that a tree in full leaf at the height of summer cannot.
