White Fever

Galanthus nivalis 'Viridipice', so called because the outer petals have green tips.

There is a kind of madness which overtakes some plant enthusiasts every winter. Galanthomania causes the afflicted (galanthophiles) to travel long distances, often in inclement weather, to inspect the minute differences in the green markings on the flowers. Many hundreds of different variations have been named, some changing hands for hundreds of pounds. ....And they are all white!

Crocuses on the other hand come in a great variety of colours and collecting them is not a sign of madness ... honestly!
