To the O2 Academy in Birmingham to see Simple Minds. Quite a different gig for Ver Simps this time out. Instead of playing the big hits, they've decided to play five tracks each from their first five LPs. People forget these days that Simple Minds were spoken about in the same way thirty years ago as Radiohead are spoken about today. They were hugely experimental at the time and were influenced by some of the other great experimentors: Bowie, Lou Reed, early Genesis, Kraftwerk, Peter Gabriel, assorted krautrock. All of which you can hear in their early work.
Anyway, I've seen Simple Minds more times than anyone else, and I've have to say that tonight is possibly the best I've seen them.
And to the lady who was next to me and doing a spot of filming I'd like to apologise if my singing during Chelsea Girl spoiled your video.
