Road to the Murdering Glen

I got my wish for about 2 hours today. The mist lifted and it was dry. However I can't have wished hard enough because it's covering us like a shroud again.

So, the Murdering Glen. This is the story as it was told to me.

Old Mother Kelly lived with her son in a cave ( hovel? I can't find any caves) on the hill beside what was at that time a main butter road between hereabouts and Cork. The locals would make butter, store it in the bog and when they had enough they would make the long arduous journey on the butter road to Cork to sell this valuable commodity. On returning, there would be gold in their pockets. Now Mother Kelly's son decided to ambush these guys on their return (and The Glen is a great place for an ambush). The story doesn't tell if he did this single -handed, nor whether it happened more than once. The bodies were thrown into a bottomless pit..(must 've been filled in since) and he was duly caught, tried and hung. But the legend has it that there's enough gold buried on the hill - in a place where the sun doesn't shine- to feed a generation. But here's the catch. This is BAD money and will bring the finder nothing but bad luck and misery.

Well there you have it. And no. I don't have a metal detector!
