rhythm is gonna get ya
More later... before anything else, if you live within show-visiting distance of Edinburgh then cancel any plans you have for either Saturday or Sunday night and get yourself along to the Festival Theatre for the dancey-music-tasticness of the Steve Reich Evening. Most thoroughly recommended. Book now to avoid disappointment.
As the safety curtain was down when we arrived we could only see the metronomes though didn't know if they were part of the show or merely decoration on a rhythmic theme appropriate to the show. After a few minutes there came from the stage a vague sort of splattering noise as of raindrops or a recording thereof. We were close enough to the start time for it to have possibly been part of the performance but after a few more people had shuffled in an usher ran to the front of the stage clutching an armful of tea-towels and asked us to leave the auditorium IMMEDIATELY until further notice due to a technical difficulty. We shuffled out into the foyer to wait seeing as the fresh air immediately outside was immediately filled with fagsmoke and watched the people outside for half an hour or so until they let us back in, sheepishly explaining that their sprinkler system had been a little overenthusiastic. Lucky that the performance was able to continue seeing as a damp stage might have been tricksy for dancing on. Turned out nice, though. AND one of the musics was Drumming.
