A whale of a time....

The penguins are carved whale tooth and the cat is ceramic.

A colleague brought in his grandfathers scrimshaw collection from the 1940's from his many sea faring whaling voyages to South Georgia. He had been struck by the resemblance of the ready to be carved one to the ceramic sculpture in the Pottery. I like when associations are made such as this.

It may sound silly, but I didn't realise how heavy one tooth was!

He had his log book and photo album. Fascinating, if a little unsettling.
