Old World San Francisco
I have done very little horizon landscape photography since I joined blip largely because I live in the "flatlands". So today, I took advantage of the heights of San Francisco and I snapped this from a high floor at the Embarcadero Center as the sun was setting. The Golden Gate bridge was completely immersed in fog so that was not an option. With Alcatraz in the backgound and the dramatic contrast of the hillside, I set the Fuji for its internal Astia filter setting and used a soft external filter wanting the image to have the drama and softness of an old world film picture. For a small sensor, the camera managed the fog in the distance quite well and this photo is directly out of the camera as a jpg but for the crop. The image is indeed soft and, perhaps, a bit spooky which is appropriate with Alcatraz framed by fog and mystery.
It is very dramatic in LARGE.
