For Rent

Yesterday I tried to finish the Flicker nesting box in time to set it up before the rain started again, but didn't succeed. The rain wasn't very heavy, so I went outside and installed the box anyway. I'm glad I did, because it's rained most of today.

When I went out on the deck to get my blip photo during a brief lull in the rain, I saw a Flicker perched on one of the small trees. I think he was considering taking up occupancy -- I hope so!

I might replace the roof because I don't like the round splotch that looks like bird poop -- it isn't. The wood had a large knot with a few cracks in it. I covered it with glue to stabilize it and to stop the rain from penetrating. When the wood was dry, the glue wasn't conspicuous, but the wood darkens when it gets wet. You can see the effect on the front panel, where the roof overhang kept part of it dry.

Another option is to paint or stain the whole thing. I'd better do something soon, before a tenant moves in.
