We're a' Jock Tamsons Bairns
It's been quite a momentous day here in KiltWalkland as we reached quite a few landmarks.
The first one was a "soft" target and that was that today we officially notched up 500 followers on Twitter which from a standing start back on the 15th January is great. In twitter land today was also "charity Tuesday" and it's great that we're now receiving tweets from other significant charities telling their followers to follow The KiltWalk as the "new kids on the block". All of this means our name continues to get out there and awareness increases. If you then couple that with the fact we're also just 80 short of the magical 1,000 friends on Facebook then the next landmark starts to make sense.
That second landmark is the fantastic news that we have now passed the 500 mark for people registered to walk the Hampden to Loch Lomond event, which is pretty unbelievable considering this is all organised by volunteers!!
When you put the above another way, then 500 people walking 26 miles means that 13,000 miles that will be covered on KiltWalk day, which is the equivalent of walking half way round the WORLD. So you know what targets coming next? And by the time everyone has registered for the April event and then add the 200 plus up at Speyside then we could very well claim to have taken The Kiltwalk around the world.
The final landmark is the picture of the lady shown above, Ruth Davidson, leader of the Scottish Conservative Party. Now in this small island of ours we Ruth is a bit of a rare bread, however we're not party political at The KiltWalk as we want "every bodies money" for Children's Charities", so on behalf of The KiltWalk gang and all who sail in her, can I thank Ruth for nailing her colours to The KiltWalk mast and being the first political leader to publicly support us and here's what she had to say.
"The Kiltwalk is a fun event, with a serious purpose. By taking part in the Kiltwalk, you are helping to bring a bit of sunshine into the lives of ill and vulnerable youngsters through the good work done by some of Scotland's most respected Children's Charities."
Kindest regards,
Ruth Davidson MSP
So just remember when you're reading this, we're a' Jock Tamsons Bairns, or at least The KiltWalks Bairns, doing what we can for needy causes.
