Old and New
I was at Irvine Royal Academy this morning to launch the first formal partnership between Glasgow University and a secondary school which will develop the school as a hub for teacher training.
The school was opened in 1969 and my Father and Uncle were both department heads there at that time, moving from the old Irvine Royal. My father had many stories about the building so it was an emotional moment to unveil a plaque with my own name on it as Cabinet Secretary for Education in a place where he had taught. I wonder what his comment would have been - entertaining and sharply sardonic as ever, I suspect!
