Shrove Tuesday - Bomb-day
To-day is the second day of tradition in the week before Lent. In English Shrove Tuesday, in Icelandic Sprengi-dagur or Bomb-day (Burst-day)- because to-day we will eat lots and lots of salted meat and split pea soup or until we burst.
This is such an old custom and not from Iceland. It actually comes from the Hebrew who were nomads. After a long winter the sheep and goats were with lam and kid and it was forbidden to slaughter them - so you had to eat the salted meat from last autumn - or so it says.
