Prayer shawl

Wednesday
I am part of the knitting ministry of our church and one of the projects we work on is knitting prayer shawls for people who have a need, whether it be during illness or surgery, bereavement, or times of stress. We pray over them as we knit them, and when the shawl is finished, it is passed around the circle and everyone says a final blessing over it. We receive many cards from recipients, saying what comfort the shawls have brought. The ministry was begun in 1998 by two women in Connecticut and has spread throughout the country and maybe beyond. We also knit baby caps for newborns at the local hospital, helmet liners for the troops, and sweaters for children in need around the world.

I have just finished knitting this shawl, for my friend J. who suffers from fibromyalgia and has just moved to Colorado from Chicago. Like me her youngest daughter is just about to go to college, and I know she is going to find that really hard as they are very close. So I hope the shawl will bring her comfort in the months ahead.

I have back-blipped for the weekend
