holiday penalty!

Back at work this morning to a meeting, piles of paper to work through and about 100 emails!.
After 5 hours work I started on this lot and managed about half before the end of the day. It'll take me about another 10 hours to deal with all the files/emails that are waiting - and I still have meetings to go to and there will no doubt be new papers in as well.
Why do they wait until I go on holiday to send in the papers?
