Absoluetely zonked after last night late night work... unexpectedly late as I got home about 2.45am. Somehow got into work for 10am - I was too tired to even think that I probably could have got away with coming in later!
Stills Lecture #5 tonight - this time focussing on Fischli and Weiss's Visible World collection of photographs - and collections of other photographs eg by Hans-Peter Feldmann.
In Feldmann's case, he collected pictures and organised them by subject - thus reducing the images to an almost irrelevancy; it was the subject that mattered. Fischli and Weiss's work was a collection of about 3000 photos that they'd taken around the world, trying to capture all the visible world - the enormity of the work meaning that it's almost imposibile to take in; as is the visible world. Another side note from this colelction of photographs was that when looking through them, it's hard not to start categorising them into groups - inside, outside, airport etc - the urge to collect and try and create manageable chunks rather than face the mass of photographs individually.
I'm not expressing the lecture very well - I blame being half asleep. Bed calls. Sleep well all!
