Life's tangled skein

Airth Pineapple

The Airth Pineapple was built in 1761 by the Fourth Earl of Dunmore, perhaps as an extravagant summerhouse, or perhaps as a symbol that he had returned from America, where the pineapple was a symbol of welcome.

The Pineapple and its gardens were gifted to the National Trust in 1974, and now apartments in the building are available to lease as holiday lets.

The place is a little worse for the attentions of time, to be honest, but it is still a remarkable folly. Perhaps a visit in the summer time would result in a better photograph
