The Crystal Palace

Miserable day in Glasgow today. Wandered out at lunchtime to see what I could see. Walking down Jamaica Street, discovered that there was a number of fire engines and police at the bridge. Managed to get some shots before finding out that Police were trying to talk down a man on the bridge.

Decided to take a couple of shots of the old A Gardner building in Jamaica Street. Building dates from 1856 and was designed by John Baird. It is the oldest, completely cast iron fronted, commercial building in Britain. The iron and glass construction was inspired by The Crystal Palace, the huge greenhouse-like building, which was the centrepiece of the Great Exhibition of 1851.

Now a Wetherspoon pub, called - The Crystal Palace.
