It's not what you think!

Not a crocus.

It is Tulipa edulis a very dwarf species tulip. Native to Japan, Korea and eastern China, it grows on open hillsides. It is very hardy and easy to grow in UK gardens where it likes a sunny spot. It is edible and in some cases used medicinally.

I love the intense stripes on the back of the petals. Open flowers are starry and pure white. Here you see it at it's best!
