Glen Lochsie Lodge
After the previous nights excess we had to walk back up from the Spital of Glenshee to Dalmunzie House Hotel to get the car.
Not so bad as it was sunny and the fresh coating of snow brightening up the Valley.
We reached the Hotel and carried on for another couple of miles to the ruined Lodge pictured via the old railway.
In 1920 Dalmunzie House was bought by Sir Archibald Birkmyre a Jute and Canvas Manufacturer. among his "improvements" to the estate were the laying out of Britain's highest golf course and a spectacular 2 1/2 mile railway to Glenlochsie Lodge. The Railway was 2 feet 6in gauge and climbed 500 feet in the 2.5 miles it travelled. The track was closed in the 1970s and the rails were lifted but I understand the rails and one of the two locomotives and the 2 carriages that used to carry house guests up the Glen still remain and that a section of track may be relaid at some time in the future
