Approaching Havoysund
If you look at the still (but bitterly cold) weather in yesterdays blip, and the (not quite so cold) clear weather in today's blip you might think that there would have been a calm sea in between the two......
However, it doesn't always work like that - there can be calm both before and after the storm. In our case the transit round the very exposed northern tip of Europe (from the Barents Sea, though a bit of the Arctic Ocean into the relative calm of the Norwegian Sea) was pretty eventful. The force 9 gale combined with freezing conditions ensured that every surface on the MS Lofoten was encrusted with a thick layer of ice.
