Splat the Alien

Another day, another ride. Theoretically a technical and shorter ride, but I thought what the hell. Up the Port Hills I went. Windy and cold, but good to be out and the ride up Rapaki was tiring but good., Single track at the top, bike park on the way down and home.

Then, like yesterday, a quick lunch and out to Halswell Quarry at 1 with Adam for the cubs/scouts water fun day. Yep, lots of water, activities, wetness, dirt, slides; it was all there. And wet.

And finally, out to sailing a little late, we got out on the water around 3.45. Windy and a little cold, but today was practice for racing (and rounding a mark). Sadly, not perfect conditions and while Adam did really well mostly, he took a couple of knocks with some downwind problems. Overall though, he did fantastically, all the kids did. They mostly got the starting routine, understood the tacking up wind, rounding the mark and then the downwind sail. Shoot, they'd probably beat me ;-)

He and I had a bit of a debrief as he was a bit disillusioned. We discussed all that had gone right and how he's naturally correcting the boat in many situations, and how when we're learning things just do go wrong. Actually, I should say to him not just when you're learning! My biking and numerous crashes being case in point!

So we stopped for a treat on the way home and I think we're on track again.

At least in sailing you can control, somewhat, what's about to happen, unlike being target for a lot of wet sponges. Fun eh!
