Torn, Twisted and Displaced.
This is one demoition site in the inner city today. It is the week of remembrance of the most devastating of our 9656 earthquakes this year. Today I listened to a man speak of losing 4 of his family members in the February of 2011. Two of them from the earthquake, one, a solo parent of two, in the fire ravaged and flattened high rise office block ( the CTV building), which killed over 100 people alone. It was humbling and saddening to hear his story. Another , a man who was a policeman on duty that day, who had mulitple fatalities to attend to and then spent time being the Vicitm Identification Liason officer for the CTV site during the intial rescue and developing recovery phases. Chilling is the best way to describe it.
On my dog walk today I took an iphone photo of this demolition. It seemed to me to be a symbol of today, a torn and broken site which defies imagination and worst nightmare scenarios. It has been majorly photoshopped and altered, to add tears, disjunction, displacement and noise to the entire view of the scene.
