I read a newspaper article yesterday mentioning that Belfast City Council had spent £97m on building the jagged Titanic building and that it is expected to pay for itself over the next four years. At £13.50 a pop, I expect it will! I must admit it is an impressive structure - I was allowed inside when it was being built. The red brick edifice to the right is the original Head Office of Harland & Wolff, the shipbuilding company that built the Titanic and her sister ships, and to the left, the yellow and gray structure is on the site of the actual ramp she was built on. The yellow funnel in the right foreground is of the SS Nomadic, a small ship which was used to ferry passengers out to the Titanic at the start of her fateful voyage. It has been used as a French restaurant on the Seine in Paris for quite a few years and has now been bought and restored, at huge expense, in time for the anniversary of the launch of the Titanic.
