Squid for starter

We went for dinner to Coltmans in Peebles. Yes, only two weeks after our last visit with friends.

Today was an odd day. We set off for Dunblane to visit the new Museum and the Cathedral, but, only ten miles north of Peebles we got caught in a blizzard. As the forecast (which we usually ignore) was for heavy snow, we turned back for home.

Back to dinner. For starter I had grilled squid with roasted fennel and vegetables. I had not had squid for a long time as on the last occasion it was very rubbery. This had texture, but it was not rubbery; it was succulent. My main course was roast Borders lamb with grain mustard mash and honeyroast parsnips and potatoes - delicious. My dessert was prune and armagnac tart with vanilla custard; equally good.

Coltmans is a great restaurant; we will be back.
