TODAY IS THE DAY. 18th February 2012 - On the 18th February 1984, 28 years ago, a driver was killed in this beautiful forest. He was aged 28 years.

Icelandic rally driver Hafsteinn Hauksson died instantly during the 1984 National Breakdown Rally, the first round of the Shell Oils RAC Open Rally Championship for Drivers, when his Ford Escort RS went off the road and rolled sideways into a tree.

The accident happened in the Dalby Forest special stage in Yorkshire, at Housedale Rigg, on the route in Sneverdale.

Hauksson, a resident of Reykjavik, was survived by his wife and one daughter.
