Are We There Yet?
The Department of Natural Resources in my state has placed these purple bags at intervals along the northern half of our state to capture......(DUMMM,DUMM.DUMMMMMMM) the adult flying stage of the Northern Ash Borer.
The insect snuck into this country aboard a ship from Europe a few years ago and has been moving steadly south ever since. No attack on this pest has yet been successful and attempts to stop it have been many. The sad truth is that Eastern US forests will be devoid of ash trees in a few years and the only thing we are willing to do is watch it happen. But we do have those nifty purple bags.
