Life begins at Forty
Today was the 40 year anniversary celebration for Yayasan KDM - a charity that helps Indonesia's street children have a better future in life, by providing a caring home, full education and the opportunity and support to grow up to be skilled independent and self-supporting young adults.
Over 250 friends, volunteers, alumni (grown up former street children - one is even an admiral in the Indonesian Navy!), sponsors and donors came together to celebrate with staff and the 75 or so former street children (aged from 5 to 19) who now live at KDM.
It was a really wonderful and inspiring day, and included a some lovely performances by the KDM children, including this angklung (traditional bamboo instrument) performance of "Doe, a deer, a female deer", which I filmed and put on to YouTube (please watch!!!).
I am very fortunate to volunteer some of my time with KDM, helping with communications and PR, so please feel free to find out more about this humble organisation online:
