There be Dragons
I work just outside the "City of London". Throughout the city you see these fierce silver dragons - standing on plinths with upswept wings and arrowhead tongues, clutching shields bearing the red cross of St George and the short sword of St Paul. This one is at Bank underground and is one of a pair. For some reason I liked this one more than the other.
The City's boundaries have remained almost unchanged since the Middle Ages and is the original heart of London as established by the Romans in 55BC. It is roughly bounded by the River Thames to the south, the Tower of London to the east, Temple to the west and The Barbican and Liverpool Street station to the north.
Histroric characters such as Shakespeare, Dickens, Dick Whittington ... and his cat, would probably all recognise the layout of the streets even though the buildings have changed significantly. When London was rebuilt after the Fire of London the street layout was on the whole retained.
So here you are, the first of my dragons!
I will now be hunting for dragons, black telephone boxes and art deco buildings.
Have a great weekend everyone
