Sugarloaf Mountain
Today we had a nice lazy day at the beach and then went to Sugarloaf Mountain. The beaches aren't as tropical or exotic as you imagine them to be in Brasil but still great all the same. The waves are crazy here and so strong that they drag you to the ground and trail you about! Throughout the day beach vendors wander the stretch of the beach selling all the food and drink you could want, including my favourite of prawns on a stick soaked with lime juice. Although it was great having food and drinks delivered right to your towel, the constant shouting from all the different sellers made it impossible to relax! We, however, were content chilling with a few beers.
In the evening we headed to Sugarloaf Mountain and seen our first view of the city. It was amazing and so pretty. We also managed to get caught in a storm and got to see it first travel from a distance and to my amazement I caught a picture of the lightening. It's not great but it's a start!
That night we dined at a typical Brazilian Rodizio which is basically what we would call a buffet except they bring all different types of meat (including chicken heart!) to your table and carve it off a sword. The only thing stopping the waitors is the red sticker you can display indicating you don't want any more meat, although at times they seem to ignore this. I was impressed by the salad bar never mind the meat and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. We tried the speciality of chicken heart, and even though it tasted nice I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy it.
We ate so much that we couldn't manage to head out for the night so after a fresh passion fruit smoothie on the beach we headed back to the hostel to rest ourselves before the nights of partying to follow.
