Naked Men!!!

Meet Pythagoras and Archimedes (Py and Mede for short)! Py is the larger of the two, and Mede the smaller.

I've been following the tale of these two gorgeous boys on the facebook page of Lincoln Rat Rescue for a couple of weeks now, and, after considerable discussion with the Wonderspouse, it was decided that I would offer to take them.

They have been known as "the special needs boys" because they both have eye problems caused by a genetic mutation, which also means that they are hairless. Not all hairless ratties have this problem, but these two both have "ingrowing eyelashes" and also slight microphthalmia. Because of these conditions they will need to have their eyes bathed daily and will also need to have a good vet on hand in case they need extra help.

These poor little ratties have had at least 3, and maybe even 4 homes in their short lives. They're around 18 months old, and both arrived at the rescue in an extremely poor state, and with "square tail" (where the tails are not nice and round, but feel "square" because they haven't had sufficient nutrition). The rescue people were very keen to find a home for them with someone who would be able to keep them for the rest of their lives and who would also give them the love and care they need. Apparently they'd already turned down 7 other people when I came along because they didn't feel that those people would be able to cope with the special needs of these ratties.

So, today I drove to a village near Sleaford to collect these boys. They're now settling into their new cage, and they're very very sweet. Although they're "naked", they do have tiny little curly whiskers, which are just adorable! They also get on really well together, and are surprisingly warm and very soft to hold and cuddle. :-)

My Valentine's pressie from the Wonderspouse was his wholehearted commitment, help and support in looking after these two wonderful little fellows, who really do deserve the very best we can give them for the rest of their lives.
