Periwinkle
This variegated form of the common periwinkle. The plant is growing against the fence of the garden built by Beechgrove Garden team in 2004. Situated adjacent to the Maggie's Centre, it is a lovely space for patients and staff to enjoy a moment of peace in the fresh air or to eat their sandwiches on nice days.
It is an appropriate plant to have sprung up as it is related to the Rosy periwinkle that is a source of two powerful anti-cancer drugs.
The garden is coming back to life and the surrounding trees were filled with birdsong - enough to lift anyone's spirits for a while at least
