Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to one and all! Hope you have a wonderful day! We started out the morning by attending a volunteer appreciation breakfast sponsored by our local Food Bank. I like this little motto that was on placards on each table: "Volunteering is a work of heart". We love volunteering for the Food Bank! Last year it had 110,000 client visits and handed out more than 2.8 million pounds of food. My only wish is that someday we will be so successful at eradicating hunger in our community that we can put the Food Bank out of business.

Our Food Bank works incredibly hard to put fresh locally grown food into the homes of hungry families. Here are just a few statistics from its agricultural program which we participate in:

-Food Bank Farm grew over 24,000 pounds of produce
-Small Potatoes Gleaning Program rescued more than 138,000 pounds of fruits and veggies.
-Food Bank Fresh contracted with four local farms to grow over 21,000 pounds of food.
-The Garden Project built and supported 53 gardens for new gardeners.
