The red rose and the briar

This is lovely old ornate iron gate into a old walled garden (now completely overgrown), the curls of rusted wrought iron and the interweaving brambles made me think of the poem/song Barbara Allen, especially the last two verses:

They buried her in the old churchyard
They buried him in the choir
And from his grave grew a red red rose
From her grave a green briar

They grew and grew to the steeple top
Till they could grow no higher
And there they twined in a true love's knot
Red rose around green briar

Well it's Valentine's Day and this is a romantic if tragic tale ...

PS. Don't think there's a actually a red rose briar in this picture ... poetic license!
