Sun down town

As I was preparing to leave, I saw through my window that a beautiful sunset was tainting the sky east with yellowed pale blues and golden pinks. I could only imagine what it must have been on the north side of town where it goes down. Confused? Well Montreal is a confused city. Confusing too. The sun rises south as I head for work, and it sets north of the city as I come home. (But since Mont Royal is between me and the slopish street I have to walk upwards, I rarely see the actual sunset. Except in the summertime when I can walk up high enough on the hill itself.) You see, Montreal is laid out on a South West to North East axis. Trace a diagonal from the bottom left corner to the upper right corner of your screen. Everything below the line is south, everything above is north. That's as straight as it gets for us. So considering the sun sets at the west side of your sheet, it does in fact sets at the North side of Montreal. Easy to understand, no? Well, what can I say, we are a diagonal city. Slightly slanted.

I thought I had no chance to see the actual sunset either by walking up and around the hill (arrival mid evening) or by taking the bus (arrival just after the sun set around 17:20). Lucky me, I then saw the sun reflected in the windows of Complexe Desjardins and this was the second best thing.
