Walking Legend

On my bide ride today, I came upon a young man leading a horse down the road. Legend, the horse, was saddled but not bridled and was being led by a painter. They were friendly and nice enough to let me take a picture. The young man, Christian, said that Legend had gotten spooked, left home and was found a couple of miles away. Legend is easily spooked by the wind, by cars, and by dogs. Christian was not riding because "He ain't broke yet". Legend is nine years old and he is just getting used to the saddle, hence the two mile walk home.

Bike ride was 23 miles today and the legs are starting to recover nicely. Increasing mileage will improve endurance.

Today was also newspaper delivery day so we bagged and distributed our 125 papers.

Homework for American Revolution class was to find out who said "Don't fire till you see the whites of their eyes". It was said at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775 and repeated by several Revolutionary Officers. The earliest similar utterance was in 1743 when Sir Andrew Agnew warned his Regiment, the Royal Scots Fusiliers not to fire until they could "see the white's of their e'en".

For what its worth, our family has five documented veterans of the Revolutionary War.
