Jurassic Coast
This afternoon C, her dog and I took off for the Dorset coast for a walk. We walked from Seatown, right on the Chesil Beach, up to Langdon Woods and were in close proximity to Golden Cap, the highest clifftop on the South coast (626 ft) when we decided it was too late to conquer the summit and instead took the coastal path with spectacular views down the steep incline back to Seatown. This let me off a further exhausting climb! I am determined to get fitter by longer, more challenging but interesting walks but enough is enough!
The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site stretching for 95 miles from East Devon and into Dorset. The ancient rocks along the way cover 185 million years. This section of the coast is between Bridport and Charmouth, and Golden Cap and Seatown to zoom in even further. Seatown is tucked down in a narrow valley just beyond the gorse and the brambles about halfway along the beach. It has a pub called The Anchor and a few thatched cottages.
The faint wedge shape on the horizon to the right is the Isle of Portland, famous for its stone. And the sailing Olympics are going to be held at Weymouth just beyond that.
