A face that has seen much, a splendid teller of tales and font of knowledge. I saw him today as I cycled into work, on time, but was late again after we had a chat.

He sailed on the Murmansk convoy route in WW 2, later a pediatrician. I met him four or five years ago and every meeting is a joy; most of my local knowledge is actually his but diluted by me....
