Contains no grit

Confined to barracks by knee trouble and looking forward to watching a decent game of rugby (Wales v. Scotland) on the Tv without interruption (my daughter is away at a trampolining competition).

Many years ago I bought a second-hand book (GK Chesterton's The Complete Father Brown Mysteries) at a stall in Durham market and later discovered that inside it had this cardboard bookmark advertising Kolynos Dental Cream. Kolynos was an early toothpaste from the turn of the twentieth century. Ccontains no grit seems to be its major selling-point. Apparently it was very popular in the 1930's and 40's especially in Brazil and India. The brand was eventually bought by Colgate-Palmolive. Salman Rushdie has a chapter titled "The Kolynos Kid" in his novel Midnight's Children - the only one of his books I've ever managed to finish.
