Footprints int he snow

As I was wandering towards around the campus at lunchtime today, I thought I'd capture a selection of the different footprints in the snow outside the library.

I have struggled to put them together on a new canvas in Photoshop, but I am gradually understanding how that process works. What I can never work out, is what size to make the blank canvas in the first place.
