The Queen of Crime

Agatha Christie was born in Torquay but in an appalling lack of foresight the council allowed the grand house in which she was born to be demolished in the 1960s and the land redeveloped. Now at least there is the Agatha Christie festival and various landmark sites to remember her by. Come in September for Agatha Christie Week.

We came to this spot, where Torquay's most famous author is celebrated after visiting the current top tourist site in Torquay- The Grosvenor Hotel, as featured in the TV programme, The Hotel. Son number one, visiting for the weekend wanted to see it. He went in and was disappointed to find no signs of chaos, though reception was as predicted unmanned.
